u/munkeypunk has been running Weird Recommendation of the Day on r/iosgaming since March 2024. Four days a week, every week, one game nobody is talking about. Here is the complete catalog.

Most game recommendations on r/iosgaming are single posts. Someone loves something, shares it once, the thread lives for a day or two, and then it's gone. The algorithm buries it. Nobody finds it next week.
u/munkeypunk decided that wasn't good enough.
Since March 2024, he has been running a series called Weird Recommendation of the Day. One overlooked game, posted every Monday through Thursday on r/iosgaming. Not sponsored. Not a highlight reel of whatever just dropped. Games that are old, niche, under-marketed, or quietly excellent, and that deserve more than the six seconds the algorithm was willing to give them.
The series has now crossed 148 games.
What makes it worth paying attention to
WROD isn't just a post title and a download link. Most entries come with a real write-up -- what the game actually is, why it's interesting, what type of player it's for, what makes it strange or specific in a way that earns the "weird" label. Some write-ups are a paragraph. Some go longer. All of them feel like they were written by someone who played the game long enough to have an actual opinion about it.
The filter underneath the whole series is worth noting too. munkeypunk has been explicit about it: every game in the series is either premium, has the option to remove ads, or is genuinely free to play. No dark-pattern monetization, no rage timers, no paywalls buried in the progression. That's a tighter editorial standard than most recommendation threads bother with, and it gives the list a consistency that's hard to fake.
The community showed up
When the series hit 100 games in December 2024, munkeypunk published a collected recap list. It scored 105 upvotes, the kind of number that tells you people weren't just showing up for the milestone. They had been watching the whole time. The comments weren't congratulations noise -- they were players sharing their own time with the games, correcting details, asking what was coming next. That's what consistent, principled curation earns. Not a viral moment, but a community that trusts the source.
The r/iosgaming thread history on his profile says the rest. Post after post, week after week, same format, same effort, no drop-off. That kind of consistency from an unpaid, unsponsored player is genuinely rare.
If you want to support the series, following u/munkeypunk on Reddit is the move. Every upvote and comment helps the posts surface.
